Why Offer Fish and Seafood?

It's easy to cook, it's in demand and it's profitable! Fish is undoubtedly in the news. The Food Standards Agency has recommended that we should all eat two portions of seafood a week to maintain a healthy, balanced diet. And our customers tell us that consumer demand has never been higher, as diners look for healthier, lighter options.

The result is that food service outlets, which already offer fish and seafood, are becoming more adventurous and trying new ideas. Other operators are getting in touch with us because they want to try fish and seafood on their menus for the first time. As restaurant suppliers we’re of course delighted to help. We’re of course delighted to help through our Seafood Solutions service - a tailor made range of chilled and frozen fish and seafood, with nationwide next day delivery to pubs, hotels, restaurants and many other catering establishments.

Where to start?

We know that food service operators can be wary of trying something new. But the important thing to remember is that fish is quick and easy to prepare, and our helpful customer service and fieldsales teams are always available to provide support. We’ve also developed a range of at cost ‘sample packs’ from our extensive Seafood Solutions range, to enable food service customers to ‘try before they buy’. These include simple recipe ideas, advice on portion sizes and pricing suggestions.

Haddock Fillets

Haddock fillets are a great product to start with because they are so versatile – excellent on their own, with risotto rice and a fresh salad, or superb as a component of pasta or seafood dishes. Historically haddock has been more expensive than cod, but quota restrictions have changed the equation and this is no longer the case. Haddock fillets can be baked, braised or simply poached in milk with butter, or even grilled or fried. Alternatively haddock is also excellent in fish pies, and most recipes for cod, hake and coley are suitable for this flexible fish.

3G Seafood Solutions North East Atlantic Line Caught Haddock Fillets

Our line caught haddock is of the highest quality. It's caught in the North East Atlantic using lines rather than trawl nets, by ‘day boats’. These small boats go out in the morning, lay down lines with hooks for 3 to 4 hours and then retrieve them. The catch is landed just an hour after being caught – which makes our haddock the freshest available. We’ve worked with our suppliers for over 30 years, and together have driven the quality of our fish ever higher.

Unlike trawled haddock, line caught haddock has no scale damage, and is firm in texture. And because the fish is gutted and cleaned soon after it is caught, the flesh is consistently excellent. Trawled fish is usually packed in bulk containers – which can cause further damage to the fish. In contrast, our line caught haddock are packed in 25kg poly boxes and iced, to keep the fish in peak condition. Furthermore, our haddock fillets are processed at our dedicated factory in Hull to exacting specifications, saving operator time and money whilst avoiding waste.
